"In 2012, I cycled from Berlin to India with friends. What a journey. I cycled alone for part of the journey in Turkey, from Istanbul to Ankara.
My friends wanted to extend their vacation in Istanbul, and for logistical reasons, I drove ahead. On the road, somewhere in the middle of nowhere, and perhaps after the first 100 kilometers of that day, I realized that the air must have gone out of the front tire.
So I stopped and examined the coat and the hose. I was in a bit of a hurry. After all, I wanted to make it to Ankara that evening.
And despite my sprint, I still had quite a distance to go. And since I didn't find anything at first glance, I thought... okay, maybe the cause of the hole, whether it was a splinter or a sharp stone, is no longer there.
So I patched the tube. Pumped up some air. I carried on.
You may already suspect it. Twenty kilometers further, in the blazing heat, I notice again that there is no air left in the tire.
Same procedure.
I'm still in a hurry. I examine the tire and tube, find no cause, and patch everything back together. Inflate it. Done. (Apparently, I still haven't learned anything.)
And the same thing happens again. A few kilometers and I'm out of breath. Something inside me has to laugh.
I stop again. This time I let go of the thought that I'm in a hurry. Because this time I only have one more piece of material to patch the new hole.
It's scorching hot. I'm sweating like crazy. And yet...
...I take the time to really look.
I examine every spot on the coat meticulously. Knowing full well that things can't continue as they are. Carrying on as before isn't an option for me right now.
Because if I puncture the tire again, I could be stranded somewhere in the middle of nowhere. Not a very promising prospect for me on this day. So I examine the tire and tube patiently and with full focus.
And indeed, at some point I find this one small splinter. Inconspicuous. Well hidden. The cause of my 'mishaps'.
I'll remove it and patch the tube one last time. Next time, I'll make it to Ankara."
What does this story have to do with insights?
Well, we often think that "keep going, keep going" is a good guideline. And sometimes it may be.
However, if we find that our thinking may not be optimal, in the sense that it is causing us stress and our solutions based on stressful thinking are leading to further stress and conflict, then it may be time to pause and look for the “splinter” or the cause of the stress in our thinking.
Or to put it another way: Then perhaps it is time to open ourselves up to insights that lead to friendlier, more productive thinking and thus to solutions.
The good news: One insight changes everything. It changes your world. At least to some extent.
And the return on insight, the dividend, the benefit that an insight can bring you, in terms of inner clarity, freedom, creativity, joy and resting in your authentic being can literally be limitless, absolutely without boundaries.
In Insight Coaching, we look at which beliefs and concepts in our thinking still act like a handbrake on us.
And we invite together insights in the understanding that new thinking / a new perspective and understanding will lead to new actions and new results.
We address all areas of life, whether it is about:
Because no matter which areas are concerned, The starting point for effective change, something productive and new and insights is always our thinking.
We look at how we can identify our (mental) blocks and which tools, approaches and exercises we can use to invite insights and thus more clarity and understanding.
